Alan Monaghan
Alan Monaghan was born in Dublin in 1970 and started writing at an early age. He was first short-listed for the Hennessy awards in 1995 with his short story, Rosary, and then again in 2002 with The Soldier's Song, which won the emerging fiction prize as well as the overall Hennessy New Irish Writing award.
Alan's book is the wonderful story of a young man caught up in the First World War and fighting in Turkey and on the Somme: he little realises that another drum is beating at home for the Easter Rising, and the War of Independence. It is a furiously strong story of divided loyalties and love. It is being called the Irish Birdsong and enormous excitement is building for its publication early in 2010.
