
Campbell Thomson & McLaughlinCampbell Thomson & McLaughlin Ltd was founded in the 1930s by Christine Campbell Thomson and Dorothea Benson. John McLaughlin took the agency over in 1968. In 1975 the firm acquired Peter Janson-Smith Ltd. Campbell Thomson & McLaughlin Ltd became part of The Marsh Agency in January 2006. Eric Ambler, Anthony Berkeley Cox (“Francis Iles”), Nicholas Monsarrat, Eric Malpass, Gavin Maxwell and Dudley Pope are among the many distinguished authors the agency handled during their lifetimes. Current authors include Ian Dear, Richard Milton, Alan Palmer, David Parlett, Sri Owen, Gillian Riley and Gary Russell. John McLaughlin started out with A P Watt before leaving to take over CTMcL when Christine Campbell Thomson retired. He ran the firm for just short of four decades before taking semi-retirement in 2006. During that time he represented the AAA on the British Copyright Council for 9 years, and was a committee member of BLACA. Charlotte Bruton joined CTMcL in the 1970s, initially working for John as his secretary. She has experience of many different areas of the agency, including handling a small number of her own authors. She continues to work closely with John looking after the interests of all the Agency’s authors and estates. |
